Life.Saver.Bottle.Filter“The way fresh water is supplied to disaster-hit regions could be revolutionized after an Ipswich-based businessman (Michael Pritchard) invented a £190 ($385) bottle that makes foul-smelling water drinkable in seconds.

Military chiefs are excited because the bottles, which can distill either 4,000 liters or 6,000 liters without changing the filter, will have huge benefits for soldiers who hate drinking iodine-flavored water.

Conventional filters can cut out bacteria measuring more than 200 nanometers but not viruses, which typically are 25 nanometers long.

Mr Pritchard’s bottle can clean up any water – including fecal matter – using a filter that cuts out anything longer than 15 nanometers, which means that viruses can be filtered out without the use of chemicals.”

I’m glad to see these globally needed solutions advancing as far and as fast as they are. The Life Saver Bottle reminds me a bit of the Life Straw as well.

Reminds me of “Sicko” and “Super Size Me” a bunch. Even if turns out to be one sided, I’m sure it’ll be influential to many and good PR for organic stores nationwide.

armani dumpster boston newberry

Above: Newberry Street in Boston, Armani Exchange closed down, dumpster filled with goodies (wooden hangers, manikins, tables, chairs, shelves, etc) a few minutes later, ladies in high heels and gentlemen in suits dumpster diving. I have close up pictures of the ladies in heels, but I decided not to post those 😉 ( I grabbed some chairs and hangers)

I’ve been really bad at posting this week and I apologize. I’ve been busy and found little to post. I almost posted about the very cool color guiding “MyCuppaTea” but then got distracted by the fact that Guster was playing live near me in September. After hurdling for tickets which I never bought since their concerts start before work ends, I scrambled online looking for the sold out but ever so cool red “Use Helvertica” shirt which lead me to Helvetica: the film. Somehow this took me to a Flickr collection of business cards which reminded me of my DIY Paint Chip card holders which someone did today though not with paint chips.

Now in my bookmarks were some really random links.. a kind of gross but amusing Frog cleaning his stomach, Martin Klimas and his smashing still photography, Hundreds posing naked on Swiss Glaciers thanks to Spencer Tunick, a kick butt Magnum wine ratchet , two huge people fighting, and the ever so fun visible but invisible public toilet which reminded me of the hilarious and very wrong Japanese toilet pranks.

Millennium Products gts kombucha fermented tea drinkWoa, this stuffs crazy weird, bubbly, gnarley, hippie-shakin, sweet n sour tingly, vibrant, delicious! I’d seen these new organic Kombucha drinks in Wholefoods a few months back but never bothered to try them out until a few weeks ago! Dang, this fermented drinks wacky weird but kind of tasty. I didn’t try it for another 2 weeks, but now I’m somewhat addicted. Every time I go shopping, I grab a new flavor…some are tastier(divine grape rocks!), but all of them are consistently raw and weird refreshing. I’m not saying it’s bad, but it’s different. At first I hated it with its gingerly zappy taste, but it grew on me. I guess it’s healthy and that’s what healthy is suppose to taste like. Give it a shot, be prepared, and open the bottles slowly as they fizz up like a bottle of bubbly. Hit up their webpage for all the details on this ancient fuzzy drink.

sushi sashimi facts

I’d consider myself a knowledgeable sushi addict-fanatic, but I was caught by surprise to learn– “good sushi are made from fish which is at least a few days old.” Woa, really? I’m one to rarely eat at sushi buffets or $1 sushi places open on Mondays, but I guess it’s a bit like a good aged steak, a bottle of aired wine, or the secret to really good Asian fried rice (it’s gotta be a day old).

Are you the type that never finishes a meal on the go ends up trashing it? Are you also the type that sees people in need of food on the streets asking for pocket change or food? We’ll Replate.org’s hope is to fix both these problems by bringing awareness of wasting less and helping more. If you have unwanted leftovers on the go, leave it on top of a nearby trashcan rather than in one so it doesn’t go to waste. I know this might seem odd at first, but I’ve countlessly seen people dig through trashcans seeking good edible food. It’s somewhat disheartening, but treat it like recycling… It’s still usable so help someone out by letting them know. Reduce, reuse, recycle.

I’ve always wondered about grocery stores, fast food joints, restaurants, etc throwing away perfectly good food(I see it alllll the time at grocery stores). I forget where, but I once read/heard that all the food thrown away in the states would be enough food for the 3rd world countries in need. mix1 beverage life fast food

On another random drink journey to Wholefoods I came across these brightly packaged Mix1 beverages claiming to be the “all natural fast food” drink packed full of the optimal mix of ingredients to maximize your all-day energy and balance needs.

At first glance, these bottles seemed more like mini paint buckets or large nail polish canisters with their flat sides and corners, but hey, they grabbed my attention being surrounded by the the other over-texted transparent like packages upon the shelf. I picked up the lime flavor to try out. It taste like a mini blended smoothie with bits of protein. It also had this distinct flavor that reminded me of the famous Asian mini bacteria drink called “Yakult“, though pronounce in Cantonese “Yu look doe”. Anyhow, the drink itself was tasty and refreshing, though I’m not sure how much of a boost it gave me.

On a side note: It’s amazing to see how many new companies are spawning out that become their own brand, or need to. Take for instance Mix1. They all sell a story, a story about how they themselves started and wanted to create a drink they would use. Not only does the story apply to the founders, but every single worker down to the sales rep. Another great example is HonestTea. The founders had a hard time finding a drink in the market that was not too sweet yet tasty. Most Iced teas were jammed full of sugars, so they created Honest Tea, which taste like real home brewed iced tea without the over saturation of soda like sugars.(read there story here, or an interview with the co-founder here)

OoooOoo, the tantalizing 2007 TASTE3 conference (Food, Wine, Art) just released a handful of lectures from this past years event here.
