guy kawasaki tech panel

Here’s a great hour long Q&A panel hosted by Guy Kawasaki asking a bunch of tech questions to a few 18-24 year olds in regards to cell phones, camera, ipods, music, social networsk, IM’s, etc. The discussions will either be like “duh” or surprise you. Personally, I’m in the “duh” region, but I live tech, though I suspect kids younger than me are even bigger tech addicts!

If your in NYC check out! I’ll be back with crazy fun pictures next week!

seth godin broken

I went to GEL last year, but actually missed Seth Godins lecture then, but due to the fast paced amazing world of the internet, it’s online now for ya’ll to view here! It’s basically Seth doing another swift and incredible presentation…this one basically a demo of the wonderful webpage ThisIsBroken.com which he started with guru GEL Master Mark Hurst. Give the video a shot and enjoy the many wonderful things that are Broken in our clumsy mystified world and get a good laugh!

blogmusik

Most of you have heard about this already, but if not, check out blogmusik.net for an impressive collection(network) of ad-free music! Once you try this ipod like interface you’ll enjoy the sweet music fades between songs and custom playlists. They even have a firefox plugin for quick song finds.
Many have doubts this site will stay legal, so have your go at before it shuts down! Personally, I still use Yahoo’s Launchcast which rocks since it uses Gracenote tech to suggest songs to you much like Amazon does for books.

web apps

I’m playing around with some online apps. Give them a shot and let me know what you think:

meebo.com– Great online ajax client for all your IM’s. They’ll have a mobile version soon! They also have MeeboMe, letting your non-tech-centric friends or strangers IM you! KoolIM and Wablet are also promising.

30Boxes.com– Online sharable calendar. I’d put this one up against Google Calendar(I wish they had an offline version to sync to)

AimPhoneline.com– FREE real phone number people can call you on! Be a good 800# for your house. Stanaphone gave out free numbers before, but now charge for this service.

JaJah.com– Web-activated telephony in a click! An interesting approach to voip with some added services. I called Hong Kong on my cell phone for free!!! I still use Skype and Stanaphone though.

goowy.com– Online desktop made simple, though it was glitchy on me at first!

musicians

It’s been a week since Club Passims incredible “Campfire Weekend of Music” and I’m craving for more, but, it’ll be awhile before the next Campfire, so I thought I’d share with ya’ll some vibrant tunes from some recent musicians I heard play live!

Aesthetic Evidence– Eclectic, experimental, voice sample mixes, almost video game like.
Raul Midon– Jazzy, solid, picky guitar beats. Humms out great trumpet sound!
Abigail Washburn– Banjo Folk/Bluegrass musician with a blend of asian culture, and at times singing in chinese.

pillow case text

I think this is just a concept, but it sure beats the web of crushed sheet wrinkles ya get at times. I’ve had stitched logos on shirts I’ve fall asleep on do this. The Livestrong armbands do this as well. It would be cool if the pillow case had a bunch of quotes stitched all over it, hence acting like a magic 8 ball each morning.

rusty belle

If your in the Boston area this weekend and craving some awesome acoustic music, hit up Club Passim In Harvard Square for their 4 day “Cutting Edge of the Campfire Weekend” filled with an eclectic range of live music ranging from folk, country, classical, a bit of rock, and bluegrass. If you like acoustic music, you’ll love it here! It’s also located in Veggie Planet hence serving up an awesome meal while chilling to some good tunes.

Pictured above is Rustic Belle. They served up an incredibly unique and new sound to music by mixing up a rustic set of tin cans, drums, guitars, baby toys, an accordion, a zither, and other various wonders. Their sound and performance was a mix of gypsidic, pirate like, jazz-spunk, with a parisian french chocolate type of twist played by a very chill and happy crew of characters..yea, very different! Here are some highlights from the two Campfire events I’ve been to:

Campfire May 06 highlights, based on live shows:
Laura Distasi, Christina Orbe, Tripping Lily, Milton, Ilyaimy, Laura Cortese, Rachel Mccartney, Jason Myles Goss, Morwenna Lasko& Jay Pun,Tim Gearan, Gretel, Lily Holbrook, Don DiLego, Sydney Wayser, Melody Garoot, Frank Marotta, Jr.

Internet Down

This is a great friendly reminder of what life’s like at times when the all mighty Internet goes down!!! My whole apartment goes crazy and we act like clueless confused cavemen, not being able to talk to people, google anything, look up addresses, buy movie tickets, check the weather, buy stuff, know the news, and at times order food! If ya have 3 minutes, check out the video here! via Vandertramp.

tip guide receipt

Just when I thought my math skillz could not get dumbified any comes a “tip guide” on a recent receipt of mine. I received the bill, and as usual, tried calculating what 18% was, but while calculating this mind exercise I noticed on the bottom of the bill was a “tip guide” that already did the calculations at 10, 15, and 20% of the bills cost. As much as I love this little added service, I worry that I’ll become dumb with math, much like what spell-check has done to my mad spelling skillz as I mentioned in my post about dumbifying tech.
